Retirement options are based on your benefits eligibility and hire status: 

Benefit Eligible Employees – Eligible for one of three core retirement plans. You may choose to participate in the University’s voluntary plans.  

Non-Benefit Eligible Employees – Some retirement plans are accessible to all faculty and staff, no matter your eligibility for other benefits.  

Defined Contribution (DC) Plan

You are eligible for the Defined Contribution (DC) Plan if you are: 

  • An active, benefit-eligible employee first hired on or after 10/01/2019;  
  • A returning, benefit-eligible employee who was rehired on or after 10/01/2019; 
  • An active, benefit-eligible employee who switched to the DC Plan during the 2026 DC Opt-In Program.  

Your core plan is the Defined Contribution Plan, consisting of a defined contribution. Additionally, your voluntary plan options are 403(b), 457(b) and Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) 401(a).

Hybrid Plan

You are eligible for the Hybrid Plan if you are:  

  • An active, benefit-eligible employee first hired on or after 10/01/2012 but before 10/01/2019;  
  • A returning, benefit-eligible employee hired on or after 10/01/2012 but before 10/01/2019, who was not vested upon termination;  
  • A returning, benefit-eligible employee hired on or after 10/01/2012 but before 10/01/2019, who was vested upon termination and took a full retirement plan distribution.  

Your core plan is the Hybrid Plan, consisting of a defined benefit portion (also known as a pension) and a defined contribution portion. Additionally, your voluntary plan options are 403(b), 457(b) and Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) 401(a).

Defined Benefit (DB) Plan

You are eligible for the Defined Benefit (DB) Plan if you are:  

  • An active, benefit-eligible employee hired prior to 10/01/2012; 
  • A returning, benefit-eligible employee who was hired on or after 10/01/2012, but before 10/01/2019, who was vested in the DB plan upon termination and did not take a retirement plan distribution.  

Your core plan is the Defined Benefit Plan, consisting of a defined benefit portion (also known as a pension). Additionally, your voluntary plan options are 403(b), 457(b) and Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) 401(a).

Voluntary Retirement Plans (VRP)

You are eligible for Voluntary Retirement Plans (VRP) 403(b) and 457(b) if you are faculty or staff, regardless of benefit eligibility.  

Additionally, benefit-eligible employees may participate in the Supplemental Retirement Plan (SRP) 401(a).
